Gwen - RIP Garmin
Yesterday, the Garmin finally died. Unfortunately, I didn't have the privilege of ending its life by my own hand; it died on its own accord of either poor workmanship or from having been connected to an IGO adaptor that stressed the pins. I'm pleased to report that the new Garmin purchased today works as intended. While not quite as sophisticated as its predecessor, I'm happy!!
We have a welcomed new member of our entourage, Frances Cowie, a friend of Dale and Roy's from their Botswana days who will be with us for a week through Paris. I'm very glad to have the chance to get to know Frances who runs an antique business in the UK. Her companionship and map reading skills are welcomed. Frances joined us in Rodez. I've included a picture of the impressive Rodez cathedral we toured that was across the street from our hotel.
With four adults and a van that seats only three, when the guys aren't bicycling, someone now has to ride in the back with the luggage and bicycles for the time it takes to drive from the end of the route to the next hotel. Most of these jaunts are no more than 30-40 miles. We purchased an air mattress to cushion the bumps and soften the hard floor and have found that taking a turn affords an opportunity to catch a nap and some solitude.
Tomorrow the Tour route takes us to the Pyrenees. After the Alps I know this will mean many curving roads and spectacular views.
